Honouring Our Roots, Embracing Our Legacy

Founded in 1925, the Keng Yai Choo Tee Clan has stood as a proud symbol of unity, resilience, and mutual support for nearly a century. What began as a humble gathering of early Hainanese immigrants in Singapore—seeking work, shelter, and kinship—has grown into a lasting community bound by shared heritage and unwavering spirit.

Our forefathers, hailing from Wenchang, Qionghai, Ding’an and other parts of Hainan Island, made their way across the seas in the early 1900s. Amidst the uncertainties of settling in a new land, they looked after one another and built a home away from home—rooted in compassion and kinship. In 1925, their vision gave rise to the establishment of the Choo Clan Society at 317 South Bridge Road.

Through decades of challenges, including wartime occupation and urban redevelopment, the clan’s leaders and members have worked tirelessly to preserve our cultural identity and support future generations. Today, our clan continues to thrive at our current home in Telok Kurau, where we host cultural events, educational initiatives, and community activities to foster belonging and pride among Choo descendants.

As we honour the past, we also look toward the future—keeping the Choo spirit alive for generations to come.
